US to UK Crochet Terms
As you may know, there is a difference between patterns that have been written for the US crochet market and patterns that have been written for the UK crochet market. Here you will find a table to show you how to translate a pattern that is written in US to UK crochet terms. There is also a downloadable copy of this US to UK Crochet Terms table.
Sometimes it is not always easy to see if a pattern is written in US or UK terms. If you are not sure if a pattern is writing in US or UK terms, it is a good ideas to l read through the pattern to see if there are any sc’s (single crochet) or hdc’s (half double crochet) in it. These terms are only used in US patterns. If you find a htr (half treble crochet) then it is a UK pattern.
Another tip that may help you decide whether the pattern is American or English, is to have a look at what type of crochet hooks are suggested. American crochet hooks are indicated as letters ie A-G and UK hooks are in mm ie 3.5mm. As the UK uses the metric system for measurements you will find that measurements within the pattern will be in cm and American patterns will in inches, as they still use the imperial system.
